Over the past two weeks the Malaysian air has been filled with the bleating chirps of juvenile birds and the harried activity of the adult birds finding enough food to shut them up.
The activity in our Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur garden has been even more frenetic than normal as the resident pair of Magpie Robins scurry about feeding their brood of three. I’m not sure what the normal number of hatchlings would be for these birds, but I suspect three is more than what is usually hatched.
Fortunately for these birds we have a ready stock of worms which are greedily devoured the moment we put them out. The above series of shots shows how nature favors the strong and punishes the weak as the younger weaker of the trio gets stomped out of the way by its stronger sibling.
